Customising your photo gallery: a step-by-step guide to the 7 designs

Picking a design, changing the colours, adjusting the typography: here's how to give your gallery your event's identity, in a few clicks and with no technical skills.

Event photo gallery customised with a bespoke design template

CéSAR offers seven gallery designs that change the entire layout — cover, grid, typography and mood — not just the colour. The design is chosen from the event dashboard, applies instantly, and can be changed even after the link has been shared with guests.

When a guest opens your gallery link, the first thing they see isn't a photo: it's a layout. A wedding presented in a corporate grid, or a conference dressed like a wedding invitation, creates an immediate dissonance. That's exactly the problem gallery designs solve.

A design is not a background colour

Many platforms call "theme" what is merely a different shade on the same page. At CéSAR, every design changes four things at once: how the cover fills the screen, the rhythm of the photo grid, the heading typography and the overall mood (light or dark). Two designs are therefore never distinguished by colour alone.

  • Éclat — the photo fills the whole screen, the couple's name huge on top. Interlaced grid, dark mood.
  • Vitrine — split view: the photo on one side, the couple and date on the other. Two wide, airy columns.
  • Défilé — a scrolling marquee in capitals then a panorama, magazine layout. The most graphic of the seven.
  • Cérémonie — invitation card: photo framed by a double rule, title underneath. Perfectly aligned squares.
  • Bureau — short banner, title on the left, dense contact sheet. Understated and effective for business.
  • Gala — darkened panorama, widely spaced golden capitals, nocturnal mosaic.
  • Chaleur — the original CéSAR style: warm coral, framed card, rounded corners.

Step 1 — Open the event you want to customise

From your dashboard, click the relevant event. The design is a setting for EACH event, not for your account: you can deliver a wedding in "Cérémonie" and a conference in "Bureau" the same week, with no conflict.

Step 2 — Pick a design using YOUR photos

Click "Choose a design". All seven appear as previews — and this is the important part: those previews are rendered with the photos actually imported into your event, your event name and your date. You aren't choosing from a generic screenshot; you see the exact result before confirming.

Tip: import a few photos BEFORE choosing your design. The previews use your real images, so the choice becomes far more obvious than with placeholder thumbnails.

Step 3 — Adjust colours and typography (optional)

A design on its own is enough in the vast majority of cases. If you want to go further, advanced customisation hands you control over every visual element.

  • The accent colour — used on buttons and details.
  • The background colour and the main text colour.
  • The heading font, from eight families (classic serifs, didones, contemporary sans-serifs).
  • The corner shape: sharp, slightly softened or fully rounded.

One technical point that matters: if you choose a custom background, the surfaces, rules and secondary text are recalculated automatically from that colour. This prevents the classic dark-text-on-dark-background trap — your gallery stays legible whatever shade you pick.

Step 4 — It's already live

There is no "publish" button. As soon as you confirm, the gallery your guests see is updated. And that holds even if you already sent the link over WhatsApp or printed the QR code on the tables: the gallery's address never changes, only its appearance evolves.

Which design for which event?

  • Classic wedding or religious ceremony → Cérémonie, or Vitrine for a more contemporary feel.
  • Spectacular wedding with one strong photo → Éclat, which gives that image the whole screen.
  • Bar or bat mitzvah, birthday, young event → Défilé, the most graphic of the seven.
  • Conference, seminar, award ceremony → Bureau, understated and dense.
  • Gala, banquet, prestige evening → Gala, dark and golden.
  • Family party or evening with friends → Chaleur, the original coral mood.

The special case of professional photographers

For a photographer, the gallery delivered to the client is part of the service. Advanced customisation lets you align the accent colour and typography with the studio's identity, so every delivered gallery reinforces the brand instead of being neutral. The design itself adapts to the type of event photographed.
